Local government corruption isn't just in Wilkes

There is another department in local government that someone needs to pay more attention too. That is our foster care department. I am pretty sure there is something fishy going on there.

Thinking more about the mayoral candidate and former NC Congressman... how many people do they need to process passport applications? How many can they possibly get that it requires 2 employees?

And why passports, specifically? With their history of fraud and corruption, there's certainly a question here of who they're giving passports to...

Foxnose, don't agree with you much, but your motto to "give while your living," is a good one. Seriously.

But. Like. If there is (in your own words) "no one left to pass it to," what else is supposed to happen?

I mean like, I get then gripe about signing it over to yourself, if you're in that position of power. But what should government do? Just knock on the neighbors door and hand it to them? Hold an auction? What's the best option?

Lawyers steal a lot of it. politicians steal a lot of it. then there just people who comb court records looking for bargains and people to take advantage of. My thought is this, " do your giving while you are living so you will be knowing where it is going. The legal system is set up for you to lose your belongings if you don't protect yourself.

I've sometimes thought about who does get all your stuff / land if you don't have anyone to leave to. I can see where unscrupulous people could take it. I've heard of caregivers getting old people to sign over their stuff. Makes you wonder if the government / government employees could do something like what Acu said.

A friend of mine stepfather was the last of his family and living in the old soldier's home in Washington. DC. The stepfather gave his Wilkes County land to my friend. When he went to the Register of Deeds office to change the name on the deed, the name had already been changed. It was in the name of a county employee associated to the Register of Deeds office. My friend did get his land back. However, it makes you wonder how many older people's land has been stolen.

And here I was believing all the corruption was in the large northern cities. How could this sort of thing happen in the Bible Belt with all these "good people" going to church on Sunday with their bibles tucked under their arms? Heavens to Betsy What's the world coming to!

In 2021, the Iredell GOP appointed Maureen Purcell as Register of Deeds after the incumbent stepped down. Purcell was under-qualified, but she was a Republican and happily did as she was told so they appointed her.

The salary was $62,597.

Shortly after her appointment, she hired two Republicans to work for the office without advertising the positions... GOP mayoral candidate Brian Summers and former GOP NC Representative Robert Brawley. Both handle passport applications.

Mayoral candidate Brian Summers he spent 90 days in jail in 1999 after "fraudulently obtaining more than $900 worth o merchandise from a Statesville clothing store." And in 2020 he worked to suppress black voters and falsely claimed that he had been endorsed by the local civil rights organization.

And former NC Rep Brawley spent 15 days in jail in 2017 related to an accusation of "malfeasance, misappropriation of trade secrets, fraud (forgery), civil conspiracy and libel."

I would be really interested to hear what the salaries are for these positions, as it certainly appears to be a t*t-for-tat situation... they gave her a job, she funnels tax money back their way. Considering that both have a history of theft and fraud, that seems to be about par for the course...
