Each store has one manager but can have 4 or 5 Assistant Store Managers. These are "key carrying" positions for opening and closing the store.

The Wall Street Journal reports Lowes plans to lay off thousands of workers and move thousands of other people to different jobs. Fever than 3,000 jobs will be eliminated . The reports come after Lowes lowered its profit outlook for the year in November, citing weaker than expected store traffic.
