The problem is that things are view as inner county comparison, but there is a real world outside the county in high school athletes. Too many times, emphasis is placed on the mythical county championship. As of this date there's no trophy.

And for the record North Iredell is as of yet to be considered an above average team. When they beat either Statesville, Mooresville, North Lincoln, Lake Norman or South Iredell then you can make that statement. I do not think they have the talent to do it.

There is a kid on the team that has a rocket of an arm and could easily out throw the other two QB's by twenty or more yards. The players and coaches know who I am talking about. I don't know if the kid just does not want to play QB or if other things are at work.

Playing #5 or #18 is like choosing a root canal over an extraction, both are going to hurt.

fbguru you have made solid points and I agree with the majority of what you have said. With that being said this WC team is extremely young starting numerous sophomores on both sides of the ball. Realistic expectations would be for this team to improve throughout the season and finish in conference as a top 4 team and I fully expect them to do so. You cannot discount the caliber of teams we have lost 2 the last couple of weeks. North Iredell just destroyed Forbush. North Iredell and Hibriten are both above average 3a teams this season. We will have a better and FAIR assessment of the team this week as they take on a beatable opponent in Surry Central. If WC loses to them then there is major issues and they need to go back to the drawing board. I think everyone knows the one position we can fix the majority of issues on offense. See below.

As far as the QB situation. Number 5 should clearly be the full time starter. The kid is confident in his abilities and is not afraid of anything. WC needs thay mentality.

Again. This is a very young tram implementing new schemes. It is unrealistic in my opinion for these kids to have mastered it after a couple of months following a near decade of running the same 3 plays with virtually no passing game.

Give it time. I guarantee you will see an improved product in the coming weeks as these guys find their identity and the level of competition decreases when they play schools their own size.

Coach Turner seems to be a great fit with the program and he wants to be here. Keep it up coach!

Go Eagles!

I dont believe West will have the team speed to out do the Eagles but who knows..the D has given up alot of points..i will say the D was put in a hard spot Friday with having to try to hold the other team out of the endzone due to poor kickoff and punt coverage..as far as the offense goes they have had close to 4 months to get it right but who knows maybe things will go better when #5 is able to start and play an entire game. And as far as throwing to #10 goes i didnt see the attempt to even get him the ball like they did in the first game..i thought that was odd.

Just so everyone knows. WE starts a lot of underclassmen. And the 2 schools they just played are 3A and potentially some of the better 3 a teams in the state. Coach Turner is doing a great job. Implementing a brand new scheme isn't perfect over night especially at the high school level. Look at Burns High School. When coach Beam got there a few years ago they lost the 1st 5 games of the season then took off like a bat out of he'll once they got the offense down winning the last 6 games of the regular season and winning over 10 games a year. It's going to take time. This is a great offense that suits our person ell very much when conference play rolls around you will see a different team. Go Eagles!

I always considered SKILL Players, OL/DL first! But it takes special talents to play there, not for the weak of heart or brains!

Can't handle the truth? Me? Just to clarify, my opinions are completely unbiased... No kids on the team, didn't graduate from WC...just happen to love football. Calling it as I see it. There IS a lot of talent, on offense at least. But whatever the formation, the line needs to be able to block. As good as # 10 is, and I think he's very, very good, if the quarterback (whichever one they use) doesn't have time to get the ball out, the WR's talent is wasted. Both lines need help. Quickly.

you think i have problems look at fridays score..the bad thing is the team has alot of talent but im not sure having them block the way they do and other things best suits them..how can you run block at this level against guys who are down in a stance when you stand straight up to start with..im sorry if you cant handle hearing the truth.

It doesn't matter if you run a 3-4, a 4-3 or a 4-4 for that matter, if your boys can't block and tackle, you've got problems. And DubC has problems.

Typical response, maybe! Better yet, true statement, yes. All defenses, not matter what, should be able to stop the run. In this day of spread football, yes you still have to stop the run, but schemes are only as good as the talent playing them. If you have a whole the size of a Macy's Thanksgiving Parade, then I don't care what you run, you are not going to stop anybody. Schemes are not the answer, but techniques and talent are. So maybe you should consider that instead of trying to out scheme people, just saying! Also another thing to consider is that defenses, this day and time face so many varied offenses from week to week, that a coach has to incorporate what he thinks will be the best for the schedule. Sorry if you took offense to the typical response, but coaches are always spending so much time preaching team, responsibility to teammates and Unity that sometimes when athletes go home, forces work against all that. That is all I am trying to say, sure coaches make mistakes, but is that coach trying to do what he thinks is best for the team, he better! When get down to it , the most important element is the team! It's not the X's and O's, it is the Jimmy's and Joe's!

Typical response, It's the parents fault..No matter how much game filmed is watched your defense has to be tailored to what talent you have..Ask the kids who played it if it worked. A 3-4 is ok on passing downs but in the mountain valley alot of teams run first and pass second..you have to stop the run..and when you have LB's who are being pushed around there are holes big enough to run Macys Thanksgiving Parade through.

Whether you are running a 3-4, 4-3, 4-4 and so on is not necessary what you think will work but what you kids believe will work. When coaches scheme and work hours upon hours reviewing film, and teach technique is generally lost when they go home to parents who have a better ideal!

I understand Hope that you are comparing this team to last years team. I think everyone was excited that a new offense was coming in that could possibly use all the talent of the skill positions players. And i do agree watching this team is better than watching 4 or 5 running plays being run over and over..but we both agree i think that the defense needs work. But those he has playing D who does not perform should be taken out and others tried..i still say that the 3-4 will not work.

I think we're just looking at this team different perspectives. My only point of reference is last year's team, so my expectations were probably much lower than yours. I still think there is a lot to build on...if they commit to the right qb, they're going to put points on the board. The defense needs help, but at least one (two?) touchdown(s) last night were given up when the defense wasn't on the field. This team will at least be able to compete in the conference, give 'em a chance!

Hope i agree with you on the QB and i think it was #10 who made some great catches but what i meant was you cant ask him to just make catches like that all year long. But i believe that they have had all summer and 4 scrimmage games to get the offense going..I may be wrong on the number of scrimmage games since i was told thats how many were played..I saw none of the scrimmage games but was told no team in the in the county could come close to hanging with them..not sure about that now..the defense will be ripped apart all year until they come out of the 3-4 and go to a 4-3..i watched all of the varsity games last year and i agree this team is better and i agree that the offense they ran last year was outdated.

But really the defense was horrible they gave up TD's too quick..at least 3 were allowed after 2 downs or less or they were gashed on 1st down. But here is my thinking on last years team...they were one of the worst teams in 20 years at Central..they are gone so thats that..dont be satisfied that this years team is better.

Based off what I seen last night, the rest of the Mountain Valley better have 5 DB's that can cover because if not Ashe will throw all over them.

They weren't THAT bad. I'll give you that the defense has some holes. The offensive line could block better. That said, this is a whole new offense that they are learning...they had about one play last year and that was to run it up the middle. Once they all get on the same page, there are at least three kids capable of making some big plays, and if you're being honest, you could see that last night. You're right about the quarterback, I'm not sure what the thought process is there. Seems clear to me that #5 is more accurate, more mobile and seems to grasp the offense better. I do think they've got a WR that if the ball is thrown anywhere near him, he's going to go up and get it. That kid was covered well and still made some impressive catches.

That team on the field last night, at it's worst, was head and shoulders above last year's team on it's best night. They've got a way to go and room for improvement, but it was their first game with a brand new coach and a brand new offense. They'll get there. Go Eagles!
